History of Parsi New Year - It is said that Navroz is celebrated in the memory of King Jamshed of Persia. About three thousand years ago, Jamshed, a warrior of the Parsi community, established the Parsi calendar, which is also called the Shahenshahi calendar.
According to the Gregorian calendar, Navroz is celebrated on the spring day when day and night are equal. There are beliefs that Jamshed saved the world from an apocalypse that came to kill people in the form of winter.
The tradition of celebrating Parsi New Year- There is a large number of Parsi communities in Gujarat and Maharashtra where this festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
On this day people present gifts and greetings to each other and give good wishes. They clean the house on this day. Decorate the house with lights and rangoli and do hospitality.
On the day of Parsi New Year, people make traditional dishes like Mori Dar, Patrani Machi, Haleem, Akuri, Falooda, Dhansak, Ravo, and Kesar Pulao at home.
Special prayers are also held on this day in the Parsi temple Agiary. People go to the temple and offer fruits, sandalwood, milk, and flowers.
