Former Chairman of State Bank of India (SBI) Pratip Chaudhary was arrested by Jaisalmer Police from his residence in Delhi yesterday.
Pratip has been arrested in a loan scam case. Actually, He is accused of wrongly selling Hotel Fort Hotel in Jaisalmer. However, another accused in this case, Alok Dhir, is still away from the custody of the police.
According to the information received, the property of Godawan Group in Jaisalmer worth Rs 200 crore was sold against the bank's rules for Rs 24 crore. The bank had attached this property for non-payment of the loan.
According to information received from the police, in the year 2008, the group had taken a loan of Rs 24 crore from the country's largest state-owned bank State Bank of India to build the hotel.
While the group is running another hotel. The group could not repay its loan. In such a situation, SBI had confiscated the hotel being built by the group and one of its running hotels, considering it as a non-performing asset.

At that time Pratip Chaudhary was the chairman of the bank. After retiring from the same company that bought the hotel after selling it at a price lower than the market rate, Choudhary came on the company's board of directors after retiring.
After the hotel was sold, the owners went to court. The buyer company took over it in the year 2016. When this property was appraised in 2017, its market value was found to be Rs 160 crore. Now its worth is around 200 crores.
Arrest warrants were also issued against RK Kapoor, SV Venkatakrishnan, Shashi, Devendra Jain, Tarun, and Vijay Kishore Saxena.
